LBA Competitive Baseball

The Loveland Baseball Association offers competitive baseball teams for players who are looking to play more games at a higher level than is offered in the Recreational Leagues. Teams are offered for players ages 8 through 13. The competitive teams typically play within the Fort Collins Baseball Club's Rookie League though some may choose to be "Tournament Only" teams.

Only players who live within the boundaries of the Thompson R2-J school district or attend an R2-J school are eligible to play in the LBA.

For 2009, the Board has decided to allow players who will have turned 8 by April 30th, 2009 to try out for the 9U team. In addition, we have decided to allow players to "play up" at a higher age group if they choose to tryout and are selected by the coach. Players who choose to try out for an older age group than their natural age, may also try out for their natural age group. (See times below)

 2009 Competitive Team Tryout Results

The LBA Board would like to thank everyone for their patience regarding tryout results. Although many parents and players were told that tryout results would be posted by Tuesday on the website, we want to make sure that every player who tried out is spoken to by a coach who can give them the tryout results and explain "why" to any players who did not make a team.

There are several reasons for the delays regarding notification:

bullet

Because it looks like we may have enough players for an "A" and "B" team at each age group (and possibly even a "C" team at some levels), the "A" coach must have his team completely selected and notify the "B" coach which players remain available before the "B" coach can really begin to select his team. This has taken longer than anticipated due to the personal schedules of several coaches.

bullet

Because we allowed players to try out for multiple age groups, there is a "trickle down" delay effect. For example if a 10 year-old player tried out at both the 11U and 10U levels, the 10U coach must wait on the 11U coach's decision on that player before he can form his team. This becomes even more complicated by having more than one team at the older age group that could pick the player.

bullet

Creation of more teams than expected. At several age groups, we had more players than anticipated try out and we are attempting to find coaches (and sometimes a few extra players) in order to form teams and not turn kids away.

bullet

We don't want any player to find out he was cut through the grapevine or via the internet. We want to hear from every coach that they have contacted all the players who tried out before we post the results on the website.

In summary, we are sorry if you were told by a coach that results would be posted by a certain day.  Our Board consists of volunteers who do have other responsibilities in their lives and we are doing the best we can. There is a significant amount of communication that needs to take place between the various coaches and our Competitive Commissioner and it is taking longer than we anticipated.
