Loveland Baseball Association Policy Statement

 Modified for clarification:   7/1/2007

Subject: Age grouping for competitive and recreational league teams

Competitive Teams Policy:

Any player wishing to participate within the LBA’s competitive baseball program shall be eligible to try out for a team determined by the player's age. Normally, the team for which they are eligible to try out shall be determined by the player’s age as of April 30th of the upcoming baseball season. For example, to play on the 10 year-old team a player must have turned 10 by April 30th, but not yet be 11 by that date.

We have chosen to modify our policy that previously did not allow playing on a team at a higher age level as follows: A player may elect to try out for a higher age level team based on the player's age and grade in school per the table below.

Age as of April 30, 2008 Grade as of April 30, 2008 Competitive Team Eligibility
8 2nd or 3rd 9 year-old team
9 4th 10 year-old team
10 5th 11 year-old team
11 6th 12 year-old team
12 7th 13 year-old team

For example, a player who is 9 on April 30th and is in the 3rd Grade is only eligible to try out for a 9 year-old team, but a 9 year-old who is in the 4th grade, may try out for either a 9 year-old or a 10 year-old team.

A player will only be allowed to try out for one team.  If the player makes a decision to compete for a slot on a higher age level team and is not selected for that team, the player is not guaranteed an opportunity to subsequently try out for a lower age team.  The head coach of the lower age team has sole discretion as to whether he will allow the player an opportunity to make his team.

Because there are no 8 year-old competitive teams, we allow 8 year-olds to try out for 9 year-old teams, but unless they meet the exception for school grade stated above, when they are 9, they will be required to play on a 9 year-old team for a second year.

Recreational League Policy:

Any player playing in the LBA's recreational baseball program shall be assigned to a division determined by the player's age. Normally, the division they are assigned to shall be determined by the player's age as of April 30th of the upcoming baseball season. For example, to play in the 9-10 year-old division a player must have turned 9 by April 30th, but not yet be 11 by that date.

We have chosen to modify our policy that previously did not allow playing at a higher age level as follows: A player may elect to play in a higher age division based on the players age and grade in school per the table below.

Age as of April 30th Grade as of April 30, 2008 Recreational Division Eligibility
8 3rd 9-10 year-old division
10 5th 11-12 year-old division
12 7th 13-14 year-old division
14 9th 15-17 year-old division
